Employment History
Science Applications International Corporation, Present
Software Applications Engineer; SAIC is a systems, solutions and technical services company, solving customers' mission-critical problems with innovative applications of technology and expertise. I am responsible for working independently and with a team of 4 other developers architecting object oriented, data driven web sites and their accompanying infrastructures including database components and reusable class files. I utilize 2.0 .NET technologies for new development including Microsoft’s 2005 edition Visual Studio IDE, N-Unit testing components, SQL Server 2000/2005, ASP.NET, C#, and AJAX. In addition, I am responsible for supporting, maintaining and enhancing a host of web and client-side applications already in production in a variety of languages and platforms including perl, classic asp, ASP.NET 1.1, Visual Basic, and ACCESS databases.
I also help support and troubleshoot our IIS web server and Sql Server 2000 database server including recently identifying a lucrative missed opportunity to utilize Active Directory fields for authentication and organization purposes.
I have spearheaded a team-wide effort to adopt a 3-tier architecting and test-driven development approach to all future development citing my own code as examples to my co-workers of how to correctly implement a 3-tier architecture and the benefits of doing so. In addition, I’ve independently developed multiple API-like class libraries to replace, centralize, and organize a host of our current redundant functionality.
Applications I’ve written include multiple, highly customizable work flows making use of an innovative hierarchal data model I conceived and constructed, a host of ASP.NET’s built-in server controls, AJAX controls, and MasterPages; all with a logical 3-part DAL, Business layer, and Display layer composition.
In addition, I’ve written a series of applications facilitating business organization components including one containing multiple, composite GridViews which provide users with interface(s) to safely interact with intricate and complex relational, business-knowledge, database-housed information. Users can insert, delete, copy, and update records along with filtering, searching and reporting capabilities on the data without the accuracy and integrity compromising elements of allowing direct database access.
Similarly, I conceived and constructed a dynamic, wholly customizable business content management application that our organization has implemented within numerous business divisions.
Currently I’m conducting a research and development initiative of SharePoint 2007 to expand, replace, and enhance our existing applications since much of their functionality appears to exist either fully or partially within the out-of-the-box SharePoint 2007 components.
My day-to-day development experience and technical exposure within the industry has also initialized my involvement within the ASP.NET community; as a member and frequent contributor of analysis, insights, and innovative solutions including a few personally-adapted AJAX controls.
Tapestry Solutions, 2006-2007
Software Engineer; Tapestry Solutions is a small business developing complex, integrated logistics software for the defense and commercial market. I was responsible for maintaining and enhancing the ARMY and Marine logistics software application currently fielded and in use today. The critical nature of the application required a superior level of quality and performance while at the same time aggressive turnaround times for an accelerated patch-release schedule. In addition, I participated in and contributed to a company-wide introduction and implementation of the Agile Methodology processes including SCRUM and eXtreme programming.
suburbanhorror.com, 2006-2007
Internet Engineer; Suburban Horror website houses the latest in music and artist news, album reviews, show reviews, artist interviews, contests, etc. Since taking over as the engineer for the website in August of 2006, my contributions have extensively improved nearly all mechanical and aesthetic components of the website. I used PHP, AJAX, remote scripting, and XML to completely automate the submittal, validation, and upload of site news announcements, updates, and album reviews; exponentially increasing the efficiency with which information gets added to the website.
In addition, I incorporated convenient, dynamic elements to the site using PHP and XML including an alphabetic album review sorting by artist or title. I significantly increased website traffic by researching SEO and enhancing the site’s layout to make it more Search Engine friendly. I improved the website’s aesthetic appeal and increased the advertising real estate by incorporating updated layout elements such as iframes and dynamic links.
Raytheon, 2004-2006
Software Engineer II; My division developed commercial military logistics software systems for clients such as the UK military, the Australian Army, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing. My primary role consisted of serving as the team expert and consultant for XSLT and related technologies such as DTDs, Schema, XSL-FO, XML, HTML, JavaScript, etc in an environment heavily dependent upon such technologies for database storage, database retrieval, and complex formatting of large amounts of text and images.
One such project; consisting of the conversion, importation, and formatting of a complex, multi-megabyte Army Tank Technical Manual, lasted nearly a year during which I worked one-on-one with the client to define and achieve their desired results. Another, smaller project I solely developed used a C# Windows Form with embedded SQL statements and XSLT classes to automatically convert S1000D formatted military database records into the current military specification using a series of complex XML parsing stylesheets, database queries, insertions, and deletions.
